SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL is a 3-day Music & Arts Festival curated by WILCO August 13-15 at MASS MoCA. The weekend's musical lineup includes a headlining concert by Wilco plus performances by each Wilco member's side project, plus musical performances by Avi Buffalo, The Books, Vetiver, Mountain Man, Sir Richard Bishop, Brenda, The Deep Blue Organ Trio and the aforementioned Mavis Staples. The festival also plays host to a fully programmed comedy stage, featuring the likes of Comedian Todd Barry, Kristen Schaal, Hannibal Buress and John Mulaney; and a multitude of interactive installations and art exhibits. Tickets grant you FULL ACCESS to this three-day event, including galleries, exhibits, and parking. Kids 6 & under free.

Kidspace at MASS MoCA’s two-part exhibition series Color Forms will feature new work by three internationally exhibited artists—Portia Munson, Soyeon Cho, and Lisa Hoke—exploring how color can become form and how it can be connected to social constructions of meaning such as gender.

Kidspace at MASS MoCA’s two-part exhibition series Color Forms will feature new work by three internationally exhibited artists—Portia Munson, Soyeon Cho, and Lisa Hoke—exploring how color can become form and how it can be connected to social constructions of meaning such as gender. Munson will use paintings, photographs, and everyday objects to organize an installation focusing on how the colors pink and blue help to shape and reinforce gender roles. Her work will also be used to discuss the mixed messages sent to children about gender and about mass consumption. The sheer mass quantity of collected pink and blue material goods to be displayed will make plain how children are indoctrinated into the world of materialism and are taught social rules for gender identity. The first exhibition will be targeted to 3rd–8th graders.

Ińigo Manglano-Ovalle's project Gravity Is a Force to be Reckoned With, is based upon Mies van der Rohe's uncompleted project, the 50x50 House (1951), a square structure open to view on all four sides through glass walls. In Manglano-Ovalle's work, the house will be constructed at approximately half scale and inverted, the ceiling of the original becoming the sculpture's floor, the floor becoming the ceiling, and all interior elements such as Mies-designed furniture and partition walls installed upside down.

Visitors can eat their hearts out in Kidspace’s latest confection featuring a bountiful installation of artwork created from food. Artists Chandra Bocci, Luisa Caldwell, Saxton Freymann, Liz Hickok, and Joan Steiner will display their delectable sculptures, photographs, paintings, and dioramams.
